Green River Fishes
preparatress Ronja Sonnenschein
Fishes from the Eocene of North America, more precisely from the Green River Formation, are exquisitely preserved. Nonetheless, the fine bones of the small perch-like (lower right) or the enamel scales of the once predatory gar (full picture and left close-up) are brittle and recurring particles. Craft skills and patient care are the key to exploring evolutionary history.
