Dinosaur bones
preparatress Ronja Sonnenschein
This job is all about removing the crust from a series of dinosaur bones. The colour contrast is good and the stability of the material is also pleasing. However, the micro-tectonic effects of these bones are not: Once a square centimetre has been uncovered, a fracture occurs and the surface continues higher, or deeper, or only with some distance. Or not at all. Moreover, the crust that surrounds each skeletal element is very different, sometimes chalky soft, but mostly very hard and brittle. In other words: beware of constant surprises! After all, we are talking about bones that could be training material if properly preserved. Nevertheless, the effort is very worthwhile and we are looking forward to the research results we can contribute to in the near future.
